David Campo
David Campo is an American composer and conductor known for his expressive, lyrical writing and colorful orchestration. His music includes a substantial body of work for both wind band and chamber ensembles, including brass, woodwind, and mixed instrumentation. Performers value his compositions for their clarity, emotional range, and effective ensemble writing.
Campo earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of Oklahoma, studying with Dr. William K. Wakefield. His background as a conductor informs his compositional style, emphasizing pacing, form, and instrumental balance.
He served as Director of Bands at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he conducted the Wind Ensemble and taught conducting, mentoring a generation of young musicians and composers.
Now retired from full-time teaching, Campo remains active as a composer, guest conductor, and clinician. His music continues to be performed in the U.S. and internationally, contributing a distinctive and enduring voice to American concert music.
